Welcome to Ziegels Union Sunday School. We are very blessed to be able to offer a meaningful Christian Education Program for the children, youth and adults of our congregations and our community.
Ziegels Union Sunday School is dedicated to providing for our students a strong Christian foundation on which to build their lives. We encourage positive relationships among the students, between the students and our staff, and most importantly between God and His people.
Sunday School
Sunday School is held every Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:55 a.m., September through June. We offer nine classes for all ages from Nursery through Adults.
Our teachers in the Nursery Class begin to lay the foundation in faith in our youngest students with Bible stories and songs. The Beginners through Fourth Grade Classes use the “Witness” curriculum while the Fifth and Sixth Grade Classes use a lectionary-based curriculum called “Seasons of the Spirit.” The Seventh and Eighth Grade Classes meet as part of our Confirmation Instruction and the Senior High Class meets to discuss issues that effect today’s youth. The adult class enjoys an hour each week of Bible study and discussion.
Summer Sunday School
Summer Sunday School is held every Sunday in July from 10:00 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. Children ages three through sixth grade meet in the Acts Room for “An Attitude of Gratitude” lesson plan.

Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School is a week-long program during the summer. The VBS Programs are designed to help us all live with one another in Christian community. Children from our congregations and the community come together to hear Bible lessons, sing, work on crafts, play games and have a great time learning about God and his love for His people. Each VBS is centered on a Bible theme. In 2005, we entertained the children with “Kingdom of the Son: A Prayer Safari.” Our study focus was the Lord’s Prayer and everyone enjoyed the Safari adventure. In 2006, we enjoyed a week with Sandy and Chester (the puppet) during “Treasure Cove: Discovering the Riches of Christ.” Our 2007 VBS “The Great Bible Reef” was very exciting as we enjoyed our underwater exploration of Bible stories. In 2008, the theme was “Rainforest Adventure.” VBS 2009 was “Camp Edge, Experience + Discover God Everywhere.” In 2010 Vacation Bible School will be held from June28 through July 2. Every family that registers before May 31 will recieve a CD of VBS songs. VBS t-shirts will also be available for purchase.
Day Camp
Day Camp is a unique blend of outdoor and congregational ministries held at Ziegels Union Church and sponsored in a joint effort by Bear Creek Camp, the Union Sunday School and the congregations of Ziegels Union Church. Bear Creek Camp provides the programming and a trained staff of young adults that are carefully chosen for their Christian commitment and their love for children. Day Camp includes arts and crafts, nature walks and studies, recreation, group games, worship and songs. It provides many opportunities for fun and fellowship for your child in a safe and caring atmosphere.
Day Camp is a five-day program (Monday through Friday) held in July from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The camp is open to ALL children in our church and community who have completed Kindergarten through Sixth Grade. If you are interested in Day Camp, please fill out the registration form and return it to the church office or Bill Hausman.
Confirmation Program
Our Confirmation program is designed to help our young people build a strong and lasting relationship with God. Throughout the two-year instruction period, the youth study the Catechism, the Ten Commandments, the Lord’s Prayer and the Old and New Testaments.
Our first-year and second-year confirmation students meet during the Sunday School hour every week from September until Pentecost. Two field trips are planned for the first year students and two for the second year students on a Sunday afternoon. The youth attend weekly Worship services, take sermon notes and serve as acolytes, crucifers and ushers. The youth attend two weekend retreats as first-year students and two as second-year students. The retreat weekends are a time of fellowship and fun and also extensive learning. There are many activities to keep them active and involved in the learning process, while providing free time to allow bonding and group activities. The retreats cover a variety of topics such as team building, ministry areas and how to incorporate our beliefs into their daily lives. In the Spring of their second year the students assist in planning and leading a Worship service. The youth also must complete twenty hours of Community Service and know the twelve Learning Goals of the Sunday School.
It is our prayer that the young people not only grasp the basics of their faith, but also build community with their peers, their pastors, mentors, parents and other adult leaders. We hope through this foundation they will continue to grow in faith throughout their lives and will share God’s love with others.
Early Communion Class
Holy Communion is shared with those who have some understanding of what is happening in this Holy meal. We believe that children can see the love of God and His sacrifice of His Son, Jesus. They can experience the pain of our Lord and the events of Holy Week in a way that many adults cannot. They can believe with the simple trust that only a child has, that Jesus is truly present as we come together for this meal. It is however a decision that only a family can make. If you have discussed Holy Communion with your child and believe your child is capable of understanding what is happening in this holy meal, your child can be registered for the Early Communion Class as early as First Grade.
Thursday Afternoon Bible Study
The Bible Study meets every Thursday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m in the Mark room (upstairs). We do no meet during summer months but will resume our weekly meetings on September 9th.
Men’s Group
The Men’s Prayer Breakfast meets every Friday morning at the Cracker Barrel in Fogelsville at 7:00 a.m. The group eats a simple meal, socializes, prays, reads and discusses the scriptures assigned for the coming Sunday morning worship. Breakfast is usually concluded by 8:00 a.m.
